Ways for fourth class cadets to sit at rest
From USAFA Folklore
There have been many interesting feats devised for basic cadets and fourth class cadets to "earn" the privilege of sitting at rest during meals, or to get certain desirable items at the table (such as the peanut butter or chocolate syrup). Generally, once a basic/4ยบ shows the ability to perform the said feat, he will not be allowed to use it a second time to sit at rest. Not all tables provide an "At Rest" option for the fourth class cadets, but the "more relaxed" tables have been known to set forth challenges for the right to sit at rest.
Among the feats required have been:
[edit] To sit at rest
- Eat the greasy bread that was in the bottom of the tray full of bacon (to absorb the grease). It was fairly hard to keep one's bearing when you heard a smack sounding off with, "Bacon toast, please, for Basic Cadet Smith."
- Drink a concoction of all liquids and semi-liquids on the table (including condiments)
- Consume a Silver bullet
- Recite, from memory, the "pledge" from the Budweiser label
- Memorize a Klingon war song
- Tell really crazy jokes
- Successfully make a basket in a drink glass
[edit] To get an item
- Reciting, from memory, the UPC code off the back of the Hershey's syrup bottle to get the chocolate syrup; this is normally done in "shoulderboard" format (i.e. "Thick bar, thin bar, thin bar...").
