Acronyms
Each acronym should have its own article which redirects to an article titled with the full expansion of the acronym. The acronym article (the one with the redirect) should be placed only into the category Acronyms. The fully-titled article will be placed into the category into which it fits. This rule is excepted for words which are only ever referred to by their acronyms, such as LZ.
- Example follows: an article titled ACQ.
#REDIRECT Academic Call to Quarters
- There should be a second article, titled Academic Call to Quarters.
The time period ...... studying ....... until Taps.
Anecdotes and Trivia
Unlike Wikipedia, trivia and anecdotal accounts are highly encouraged.
Capitalization
In the Wiki system, every article forces the first letter of its title to be capitalized by default. When creating embedded links to the article, you can leave off the initial capitalized letter and the link will work properly. However, if any other letters in either the title or the link are capitalized, then it becomes case-sensitive. This can generate confusion when links to existing articles come up red because of unconventional capitalization. The standard capitalization convention is as follows:
| Article Type | Convention | Correct Examples | Bad Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proper and semi-proper nouns | Capitalize all words | Bradley C. Hosmer Mitch's Mountain | bradley c. hosmer Mitch's mountain |
| Officialy named events Military formations | Capitalize words except conjunctions/prepositions | Agenda for Change Saturday Morning Inspection | agenda for change Agenda For Change saturday morning inspection |
| Mundane items | Default (no capitalizations, or first letter only) | Gray leather gloves | Build a redirect: |
| Acronyms | Capitalize all letters | AFCW | Afcw afcw |
The capitalization schedule is most important when creating embedded links to articles, so we can avoid having to build hundreds of redirects for all the different ways to link to the same article. As for titling a new article, use whatever scheme makes the most sense. If in doubt, use default capitalization.
If you are writing a link to an existing article, and the link turns red but the way you capitalized the link looks correct in the context of what you have written, either build a redirect or go to the target page's discussion tab and recommend the page be moved to one with the proper capitalization.
Category names should generally be capitalized in title case; i.e., capitalize all words except "a", "the" and short prepositions.
People and Names
Articles about people should be titled as Firstname Lastname, instead of Lastname, Firstname (Include middle initial if known). However, the category page containing the names of the articles needs to sort them alphabetically by last name. To allow this, have the category reference it as Lastname, Firstname as shown below.
- Example: An article titled Nino Baldacci.
Nino Baldacci is the fictional perpetual cadet who has somehow never managed to graduate.
