More stuff

I found a lot of stuff here: http://www.usafa82.org/spec_int/wing_traditions/wing_traditions_draft.htm. Some of it can be added to the wiki. Lots of it looks like it used to be on the old edodo folklore site, since it is worded exactly the same. There is some unverifiable and possibly wrong stuff in there, though.

>>>> Any way we can get a page count on the main page (like Wikipedia has, you know, "currently 1,336,000 articles")  ? --Heinous 23:19, 23 August 2006 (PDT)

How's that? Not particularly flashy, but we can work on that. - Tarfu92 15:40, 24 August 2006 (PDT)

Inverse Redirects

Is it possible to make inverse redirects? For example, it's a pain in the ass to make fifty different pages called "Taco", "Taco Gilbert", "General Gilbert", "Brigadier General Gilbert", "Burrito", "El Chimichanga", etc, and have them all redirect to the properly named article. Is there some way we can list all the alternate names for an article and have the redirects automatically build themselves? I'm not a wikipedia expert otherwise I'd probably know the answer. --Heinous 15:05, 7 July 2006 (PDT)

Not sure. I've never done it, but I too have only moderate wikipedia experience, so that doesn't mean it can't be done. Tarfu92 15:18, 7 July 2006 (PDT)

Changing Squadrons

What should this article be called? Some classes changed squads after one year, some after two and some not at all--we should have a chart for this.

Good idea. We always referred to it as "Shuffling" or "The Shuffle", but I don't know if there is an official term for it. I'll start the article as "Shuffling Squadrons" and see where it goes from there. Tarfu92 09:55, 14 July 2006 (PDT)

Wiki Standards

As the wiki grows, we should write up a set of standards which show the newcomer with info to share how he should write it up and allocate it into the existing category structure and redirect convention. I'll start the page, we can discuss the standards there and make official edits to it as necessary. I started the page here: USAFA Folklore Wiki:Standards. --Heinous 16:33, 15 July 2006 (PDT)

Main Page Layout

I'm just messing with the layout of the Main Page to find something better than the bulleted list (even though I recognize that the bulleted list is the key to effective Airpower). If anyone has any ideas for a better format, go for it. Tarfu92 07:12, 25 July 2006 (PDT)

I like it. --Stripe 08:29, 25 July 2006 (PDT)

OK...trying to make it look a little more like a Wiki. Haven't quite sussed out the "featured article" stuff yet, though (primarily due to lack of trying). Any remarks or suggestions are appreciated. - Tarfu92 09:52, 29 March 2007 (PST)

Featured articles

I think it would be cool if we stole yet another page out of Wikipedia's playbook and totally fleshed out some of the better articles to make them "featured" - with nice fancy pictures and what not. Then we can place links directly to them from the front page. Might inspore more people to read the folklore wiki and make additions of their own. But hey, what the hell do I know. --Heinous 15:26, 20 January 2007 (PST)

I totally agree, except I am admittedly only moderately competent at this. Any idea how to set something like that up? I've browsed the source of some of the related Wikipedia pages, and however they do it, I'm not getting it--other than that they draw from a queue of previously identified articles. I would have assumed that there's some sort of template or script to pull these automatically, rather than putting them up manually each day, but I can't seem to find it. - Tarfu92 08:04, 22 January 2007 (PST)

This is about as much as I could figure out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Transclusion . Still would need some kind of automatic script to generate a new one daily/weekly/etc.

In the meantime, I'll browse around and see which of our articles are the best so far, make a list or something.

Navboxes and Infoboxes

I made a few to try out. Let me know what you think. - Tarfu92 12:56, 3 August 2007 (CDT)

Root Redirect

For professionalism's sake, it would look better if you redirected the root page to the wiki mainpage. I think you do this using a 301 redirect, which on Unix Apache is done like this. Falconfighter

This is a temp domain anyway (Cadet X? Come on!) I'm thinking maybe folkore.usafatoday.com... --Stripe 22:39, 24 February 2008 (CST)
