Summer Research was a six week summer program offered to selected incoming first class cadets majoring in certain academic fields where they would live in the VOQ and be assigned to an active unit where their skills could be directly applied, such as laboratories, test organizations, and advanced planning organizations. Assignment selections within a department was often done by academic rank so the top cadets could take the choice locations, often overseas.
