Summer Academics is a program which cadets may select (voluntarily or involuntarily) in lieu of taking leave for one of their summer periods. A variety of academic classes are offered, and cadets may decide to repeat a course to improve a deficient grade, or to take an opted course to lighten their course load in the coming semester. Usually only one course can be completed because the entire course is taught and tested over the course of three weeks.

Cadets who were struggling academically were sometimes selected for summer ac involuntarily, and had to decide whether to give up leave or give up an optional summer program such as Soaring or Jump.

Cadets on summer academics are part of the Student Squadron, within Composite Group.
