Squadron sweethearts
From USAFA Folklore
Through the early 70s(?), cadet squadrons would select squadron sweethearts. At the beginning of each squadron's section in the Polaris were pictures of the cadet squadron commanders and the squadron sweetheart. Every year there would be campaigns to elect a squadron sweetheart. As a general rule the sweetheart selected would be some firstie's girlfriend; however, the 1971 Polaris also contains pictures of a cute five-year-old girl (presumably belonging to the AOC) and a small pig (the animal as opposed to a less than attractive woman).
