Command Post runs the day to day schedule of calls at the Academy, makes announcements over the loudspeaker, and announces the uniform of the day as chosen by the Senior Officer of the Day. They take accountability and status reports from the group and squadron CCQs, and report to the 34th Training Group. They also operate the Lightning Early Warning System.

Command Post is staffed by cadets, and is for that reason notorious for messing up bugle calls, sending out emails to the entire wing every 5 minutes (emails which cadets promptly ignore and delete), and changing the UOD almost hourly. Oftentimes, Command Post cadets could be bribed to make joke announcements or play music over the loudspeaker.

[edit] History

Originally, Command Post was located in the basement of Vandenberg Hall, connected to the tunnels, just below the second stairwell from the east on the north side. (Today, the electrical company occupies the rooms down there). From the 60s through the 90s, it was located in the glass rooms on the Terrazzo level of Vandenberg Hall, just east of the Tour Pad. From 1955 to 1968 it was called Security Flight and the cadets would call it "Suck Flight." When the name was changed to "Command Post," cadets would call it "Compost," or "Commode Post".

Currently, it is co-located with the base operations center, manned 24 hours, in the basement of Harmon Hall beneath the Honor Court, and is officially referred to as the Cadet Wing Command Post (CWCP).

A typical loudspeaker announcement begins with "Attention in the area, Attention in the area" and ends with "Command Center out." The e-mails they send almost hourly are usually titled ***** TIME CRITICAL ***** and actually contain very little useful information.
