Running the strips
From USAFA Folklore
Prior to Recognition, fourth class cadets are required to run the strips. When outdoors, Fourth Class Cadets may not walk around at ease or at rest on the Terrazzo. They must travel to and from classes, meals, intramurals, and everything else by running at attention along the outermost row of marble strips on the Terrazzo, and loudly greet all upperclassmen they encounter. In some years, running was only required during Basic Cadet Training and Hell Week, but Fourth Class Cadets were still required to be at attention on the strips and greet upperclassmen.
