Morale, Welfare, and Health Inspection
From USAFA Folklore
The Morale, Welfare, and Health Inspection (MWH) is a dreaded, unannounced inspection of the cadet dormitories for contraband. The inspection is conducted either at 0530, immediately upon release from Night Call to Quarters, or immediately following Taps)--either way is meant to maximize the number of cadets in their rooms at inspection time.
MWH is conducted on one squadron at a time. It is a search for contraband and unauthorized goods. General cleanliness and orderliness are not inspected in an MWH; the emphasis is on looking for items such as alcohol, drugs, cooking equipment, flammables, and weapons. The inspection may be administered to the entire squadron, to one class within the squadron, or to specific individuals "randomly" selected from the squadron. Following MWH inspections, it is not uncommon to see liquor bottles and beer cans littering the dormitory quads, as cadets had frantically disposed of contraband by throwing it out the window.
