K: Drive
From USAFA Folklore
A modern addition to cadet life, the K: Drive is a shared network hard drive to which all cadets, AOCs, and faculty have access. It is used for storing common files for squadron training, regulations, and homework assignments. The K Drive has a tendency to fail at the most inconvenient times, most notably right before Taps as hundreds of procrastinating cadets all log on at once to submit electronic homework assignments that are due at Taps.
The K: Drive has been a point of contention between cadets and permanent party because of what material get stored on it. Movies, music, TV show clips, home videos, pornography, and many other things have cluttered up the K: Drive before. Cadets like the ability to share their many entertainment files, but the PTB does not approve. Due to intellectual property laws, the K: Drive is frequently searched and purged by the Communications Squadron. Prior to 2004, the K: Drive was used more for entertainment than it was for actual work.
