IHTFP

IHTFP stands for "I Hate This Fucking Place". For many cadets, it captures their feelings precisely and is a common subject of graffiti. When asked to explain it, some will answer "I'm Here To Fly Planes". Sometimes, cynically, it is also translated as "It's high time for punching". When it comes time for cadets to order their class rings, the PTB usually prohibit cadets from getting IHTFP engraved on the inside.

"IHTFP" dates back to the late fifties and the early days of USAFA. In 1960, some members of the Class of 1961 wanted to have IHTFP engraved inside their rings and were not allowed to do it by the OIC of the 1961 Ring Committee. (source: Hector Negroni, Class of 1961) Falcon Codes were created during the Vietnam War in order to get a point across to a fellow pilot. Falcon Code 106 is IHTFP.[1]

Another "politically acceptable" translation, when asked, was "I Have Truly Found Paradise." In use at least from 1965-1969.
