Ghoul Pool
From USAFA Folklore
I don't know how long the tradition continued, but back in the "boys' school" days, we used to have the Ghoul Pool.
[edit] Accounts
- I remember on the old ZI Field Trip . . . that we all took at the end of doolie year, we visited bases representing all of the major commands. Wright Pat, Cannon, Hamilton, and others. (remember those???) At each location, the local commanders arranged to have a number of young ladies present at some evening event -- a number equal to the number of cadets. The ladies (volunteers, unfortunately) would line up on one side of a wall, and the cadets would line up on the other. Then the two lines would advance -- the first person in each line pairing up with the other. Before the event, every cadet threw a dollar in a hat. Afterwards there was a vote as to who had the most unpleasant date, and the "winner" walked with several hundred bucks. If you had an unattractive date, she got treated like a queen, because that cadet ran around introducing her to everyone. This was the origin of the observation "hell is coming in second in the Ghoul Pool." Of course, there is no doubt in my mind that the ladies had a ghoul pool as well. We tried not to think about that. - (Falcon Old Guy)
