Class lights

The Class Lights were four switchable illuminated panels in Mitchell Hall, mounted on the Staff Tower. There were four lamps, one in each of the class colors, and when illuminated it indicated that particular class was dismissed from the meal and free to leave Mitch's. First class cadets would be permitted to leave first (normally right after "Wing, take seats"), allowing them an uncrowded passage to their next class or the dorms. The fourth class cadets would be required to remain the longest, requiring a mad dash to their next destination.

[edit] History of the Lights

The lights would go away and come back over the years:

  • The lights made a brief comeback in 1992, but went away shortly thereafter.
  • Most recently, they made a brief comeback in 2002, but were soon replaced by large pieces of colored cloth which were slung over the Staff Tower rail when the dismissal time came. These too went away, and following this, cadets were permitted to leave Mitchell Hall at any time following "Wing, take seats."
