Boxing
From USAFA Folklore
Boxing has long been a rite of passage at the Academy.
[edit] Physical Education
From 1995 to ____, and again from Spring 2006 to the present, all male cadets have been required to take boxing during fourth class physical education. From _____ to spring 2006, boxing was optional; most cadets still took boxing, but were given a choice between it and wrestling for their fourth class combatives class.
[edit] Intramurals
Boxing is also available as an intramural sport. Each year, the best boxers in the Wing are identified through competition in a wing-wide tournament, culminating in the Wing Open boxing championships in the Spring.
[edit] Intercollegiate Boxing
The winners at the Wing Open normally comprise the Academy's intercollegiate boxing team, which competes in the National Collegiate Boxing Association. In the Academy's history, Air Force has never placed lower than second in the nation in boxing.
