At rest is the least restrictive position of military bearing that generally allows free movement and talking. For fourth class cadets, "at rest" likewise means that they may move freely and are allowed to talk. They must still greet all officers and upperclass cadets, and extend all proper customs and courtesies. Fourth class cadets are normally at rest in their own rooms, in Fairchild Hall, and at the athletic facilities. Occasionally, after a big win against Army or Navy, the fourth class cadets may be put at rest in the entire cadet area. Additionally, upper class cadets have developed many interesting ways for fourth class cadets to sit at rest at meals.
