In the cadet dorms, the hallway is recessed where the room doors are. This space is called an alcove. Each alcove has two doors. Alcoves typically face each other across the hall, for a total of four doors in each alcove. Vandenberg Hall is five alcoves wide (north to south) and Sijan Hall is six alcoves wide. For purposes of cleanliness and inspections, the alcove is considered an extension of the cadet's room, and it is the responsibility of the cadets to keep their alcoves clean.
