Athletic jacket
From USAFA Folklore
(Redirected from A-Jacket)
The athletic jacket (also known as the A-Jacket) is a lightweight, blue jacket worn over the light blue uniform shirt when the weather is cool. It has patches for the cadet's name, class year, and squadron. Cadets are permitted to attach additional approved patches to their A-jackets, such as varsity letters and club patches.
[edit] Notes
- The Class of 1978 was the first class to wear non-purple A-jackets. They also started the practice of putting nametags on A-jackets and parkas.
[edit] Personal Accounts
- My class (Class of 1976) received a mix of A-jacket styles. In addition to "classic purple", there were blue jackets with breast pockets, and (in my case) a "fuzzy blue" which had the unfortunate appearance of mohair. I received no end of grief from upperclassmen until the word spread of the existence of this rare species, after which it became a hotly-sought-after item. Quatermass '76
